Jorge Ordonez 2005 #2
Victoria Moscatel
Today’s offering is brought to us by two prolific figures in the wine world. They are revolutionary wine importer Jorge Ordonez and world-renowned dessert wine maker Alois Kracher. The two have teamed up to present a brilliant collection of dessert Moscatel (Muscat) from Malaga, Spain. Jorge Ordonez has pioneered diversity in the American market by offering a complete wine portfolio that includes many regions of the Spanish countryside; this along with Alois Kracher’s expertise, delivers a beautiful dessert wine from a region few of us have ever had the pleasure to experience.
The Wine Advocate’s review of the Jorge Ordonez 2005 #2 Victoria Moscatel is as follows:
“…There is a mineral element with fresher fruit and livelier acidity than its sibling. The flavors are an attractive amalgam of pineapple, mango, and kiwi. Both wines would make for an excellent aperitif or an accompaniment to fruit desserts.”
91 points, Wine Advocate
Although this wine is half-bottle sized, we are selling it at almost half the national retail price! This wine exhibits beautiful balance of fruit and acidity, thus, no cloying sweetness. It is not a fortified dessert wine. The old vine Moscatel grapes are hung to dry in a temperature controlled environment and then fermented. If you’re a fan of Muscat dessert wine this is a brilliant showing. The aromatics are flowery and the palate offers a kaleidoscope of candied tropical fruit and marmalade. This wine would be a great complement to custard or a fruit tart.
